About My Class & Me
Hey,
I’m Petra. My journey with yoga began as a teenager, one afternoon after school at a Gold’s Gym in East Greenwich, Rhode Island; a hot power class. I won’t claim that class changed me profoundly, but it was certainly a catalyst for something bigger. My practice wasn’t always consistent, but it remained a thread throughout my life. My best friend in the world dove headfirst into yoga, and I had the privilege of watching it transform her in the most beautiful ways. How could I resist?
I studied at Brandeis University in Massachusetts, earning a degree in Global Studies with a focus on Global Health. After school, I moved west to San Francisco, where my practice deepened. I tried the corporate tech life, but it wasn’t for me. I also struggled with serious health issues in my early 20’s requiring two lung surgeries and many months of recovery. Life got hard and I turned to yoga. I found YogaFlow SF and met my mentor, Erin Gilmore. I fell in love with the challenging sequences and the self-exploration that yoga invites. This practice has given me so much.
I had planned to complete my yoga teacher training in May 2020, but a global pandemic had other ideas for me. True to my air sign nature, I moved across the country (again) and settled in St. Petersburg, FL. In 2021, I completed my YTT under Dr. Liz Lindh at Lakshmi Rising in Costa Rica and have been teaching as a registered yoga instructor at The Body Electric Yoga Company in St. Pete ever since.
I teach many styles; Power, Hatha, Vinyasa Flow, Restorative, The Rocket®, and more. My teaching is inspired by Pilates, dance, strength training, and other movement modalities. I never stay in just one lane. My yoga class is more than just a workout; it’s an invitation to explore your relationship with yourself and the world through movement. You'll flow through creative, non-traditional sequences, each set to a unique playlist (music plays a vital role in my classes). Whether you're a beginner or an advanced practitioner, my classes are designed to meet you where you are. Some elements will be accessible early on, while others will require time, work, and patience; so keep coming back.
I encourage you to listen to your body, be honest with yourself, and make choices that serve you, both on and off your mat. In my class, you’ll tap into your creative spirit and move to the rhythm of your breath.
Can’t wait to practice with you!
Much love,
P
